At the end of the same year, Louis Lumi\u00e8re directed and released his first fictional film,&nbsp;<em>L\u2019Arroseur arros\u00e9<\/em>&nbsp;(\u2018Tables Turned on the Gardener\u2019). Amazed by what he saw,&nbsp;<strong>Georges M\u00e9li\u00e8s&nbsp;<\/strong>grabbed a camera and went on to revolutionize cinema, with films lasting 14 minutes (as opposed to the standard 50 seconds).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Driven by its most fervent enthusiasts to ever more innovative and original ideas, cinema has gradually been transformed by the emergence by new technologies&nbsp;, including IMAX :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reel to reel projectors were replaced by digital projectors;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Silent<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>cinema made way for the \u2018talkies\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0with the arrival of the chronophone, then the chronomegaphone, before being supplanted by stereo sound, digital sound and Dolby Atmos (allowing for up to 28 tracks);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Screens grew larger and became convex,&nbsp;<\/strong>and their specifications were modified, so as to include, for instance, micro-perforations to improve picture quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The incredible contribution of IMAX technology to films<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know that IMAX stands&nbsp;<strong>for<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Image Maximum<\/strong>? This technology uses a 70 mm film surface, as opposed to 35 mm, giving images incredible&nbsp;<strong>clarity<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>sharpness<\/strong>, as well as very rich&nbsp;<strong>depth of field<\/strong>&nbsp;and use of&nbsp;<strong>colour<\/strong>. Thanks to IMAX technology, audiences can be totally immersed in a film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Legend has it that the camera technicians who worked on&nbsp;<strong>Christopher Nolan\u2019s&nbsp;<\/strong>movie&nbsp;<em>The Dark Knight<\/em>&nbsp;had to undergo special training, to make their arms strong enough to shoot in IMAX: the IMAX camera weighs 38 kilos!&nbsp;<strong>Marvel Studios<\/strong>&nbsp;is very fond of this technology too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As it constantly evolves, it is important to draw a distinction between&nbsp;<strong>IMAX<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>2D<\/strong>, which provides high image quality at the cinema&nbsp;<strong>and IMAX 3D,<\/strong>&nbsp;which works in the same way but projects two films simultaneously onto the screen. Also worth noting is&nbsp;<strong>IMAX DMR,<\/strong>&nbsp;which is used to remaster films not originally shot in IMAX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no doubt that today, this technology offers real&nbsp;<strong>added value for films<\/strong>.
